Description
We developed a series of fine replicas from the GNЁZDOVO excavations in Russia. This is a "E-2" type sword found in the L-13 Barrow in 1949.The sword can be defined as Variant E-2, which is characterized by the ornament of simple pits. The pits are arranged in a chequer wise manner. There are twisted wire threaded through the pits, this is extremely rare.
J. Peterson dates these swords to the 9th c., however, F.A. Androschuk broadens the date of this type to be the 1st half of the 10th c.
Blade is 31 inches, overall 38 includes the scabbard and fittings as shown.
The twisted wire inserts are extremely difficult and time consuming to do.
The blade is heat treated carbon steel with a blunt, re-enactor edge.
